National History

Beta Chi Theta National Fraternity Inc. is a nationally registered social Fraternity that was established in 1999 at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). On June 2, 1999, Beta Chi Theta was formally acknowledged by the University and granted membership into the UCLA Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC). Beta Chi Theta was originally founded by 8 gentlemen who wanted to solidify their friendship in a formal bond of Brotherhood. These gentlemen’s actions and strong foundation rippled across time, sweeping from ocean to ocean because of the strong founding principles. Now the brotherhood has over 700 brothers in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Indiana, Florida, Michigan, and Minnesota. On April 23rd, 2006, Beta Chi Theta became the first and only nationally recognized South Asian fraternity through its acceptance of membership into the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). Additionally, at seven years of age, it was also the youngest fraternity ever to become a member of the NIC.

Theta Chapter History

Theta Chapter was founded October 19th, 2004 by eight gentlemen. We were officially recognized by the IFC in February 2005. Nationally we were considered only a colony but after many years of hard work we were granted chapter status during National Convention VI, which was held in our very own Nashville, TN. Because of our central location among many of the chapters in the east, our chapter has been home to several visits to maintain our nationwide network and has served as the location for the Midwestern and Eastern Co-Regional Conference and Formal. We have received many Chancellor Heard Greek Awards including Outstanding Alumni Relations Program, Outstanding Campus Involvement, and Outstanding Risk Management. We have also been recognized for our exemplary participation in giving to the Senior Class Fund as well as the highest participation in a worldwide philanthropy event raising money and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer called Movember. We recently celebrated our Fifth Year Anniversary during the 2009 homecoming weekend and look forward to many more anniversaries in the future. We will always uphold the founding principles of Beta Chi Theta which will undoubtedly ensure our continual rise to the top

Creed

“We, the Brothers of Beta Chi Theta, in order to form a national fraternity based on leadership, cultural consciousness, and most importantly brotherhood, believe in the advancement of one’s self by way of community service, academic preeminence, and perpetual kinship.

Principles and Motto

The founding principles which support and give purpose to Beta Chi Theta are: creating and maintaining a strong, close knit Brotherhood, honoring Tradition, actively pursuing Service to Humanity, increasing South Asian Awareness, promoting Academic Excellence, and building a Unified Nationwide Network. Every day we grow larger, fostering our goals and reaffirming the purpose for the existence of our organization. Our most important pillar is brotherhood as demonstrated by our motto, “Above All Else, Brotherhood.” This promotes a family atmosphere and makes us an extremely close knit organization. Although we are founded on a pillar of South Asian awareness our brothers come from many different cultural backgrounds. We do participate in South Asian events, but everyone’s culture is respected and diversity is encouraged. What we do feel is important is a knowledge of many cultures, an open mind, and the wisdom to learn from all aspects of all our brother’s different cultures so that each of our own unique strengths can be utilized.
